The Prayer Group         The next prayer meeting is planned for Tuesday May 8th at 10:00 am in Somersham, please ask Shirley Adams (Somersham Parish Church) or Sue for further information if interested. There are sheets found in each Church for any prayer requests.

Go to their website
and search for
St John the Baptist Church – Somersham
Old Hurst Church
Then just follow the instructions.
There is no cost to you as a purchaser, but the Church you choose receives money for doing absolutely nothing.  If you are unsure of what to do, just ask Jenny Smith or Eddie Howlett at Somersham or Nicola Jarmaine at Old Hurst.

Somersham Church recently received £85.44 from easyfundraising – so keep up the good work!

Fundraising – Quiz Night
This will be held in the Church on Saturday 12th May and Jenny Smith has kindly agreed to set the questions. Teams of up to 6 people – cost £5 per person. A lot of work goes into organising these quizzes so please try and get a team together to support this as it is a fun evening. Please spread the word and encourage your friends to come and take part.

Calendar Photographic Competition 2019
Entry forms for this are available at the back of the church and in Somersham Library.

New Book – The Somersham Pageant
Copies of this are now available to purchase from Alan or Jean and cost £7.50. All profits from the book will go towards the new heating system. Tel 01487 741531.

Gift Aid    If you are a regular contributor to the church by Standing Order or through the Envelope Scheme and your circumstances change regarding your address or your tax status could you please inform Jean Draper so that your records can be updated.

Regular Giving also has a significant impact on our Church Finances and is a major source of income. Thank you to everyone who contributes in this way either by Standing Order or through the Envelope Scheme. The start of a New Year could be the time to review your giving and see if it is possible to increase your donation. Alternatively, if you are a regular worshiper who does not subscribe to either scheme perhaps this is the time to start! If you would like more information please speak to Jean Draper or one of the Churchwardens or pick up a leaflet from the back of the church. Please give this some thought and prayer.

Church Cleaning
The same few people volunteer to do this, it only involves giving up a small amount of time every couple of months. If you don’t help at present and are able to so, could you please consider putting your name down on the rota at the back of the church. The more people that come forward to help will mean that everyone doesn’t have to do it so often. If you want to know more about what is involved speak to one of the churchwardens.

Lead Theft

The Church Buildings Department at the Diocese has been contacted by PC Pete Mills of Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team, who has asked them to contact all churches in relation to recent lead thefts from a number of churches within the Diocese. The thefts are significant, and have occurred at night over the last few weeks, and it is extremely likely that the thieves will continue to target churches in the area until the price of lead drops.

Please be vigilant and if you see any suspicious activity around any of the Churches in the Benefice please contact a churchwarden or you can contact the police generally on the following telephone numbers:

999 – for a crime in progress of suspicious activity potentially resulting in a crime

101 – for a crime that has occurred already and has just been discovered.

Do you use the Internet to shop for clothes, shoes, books etc?

If you do, why not become part of Easy Fundraising and help our Church.  It doesn’t cost you anything, but the company or store you buy from donates a small amount of money to your chosen organisation – St John the Baptist Somersham. Every penny they donate helps the church.

Find the web page and sign up.

We have received £17.66p without doing anything except signing up to the fundraising site and buying something on the internet.

If you want more information, or you are not sure what to do please speak to me.

Thank you.  Jenny Smith
