St John’s Somersham receives an ENGAGE AWARD three years running

Engage Awards    The Diocese of Ely is encouraging its churches “to engage fully and courageously with the needs of our communities” – and re-imagining our church buildings is named as a vital way of supporting that ambition.

The Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust are encouraging such re-imagining and engagement by presenting ten Engage Awards to Cambridgeshire Churches each year.

St John’s Church, Somersham applied for an Engage Award in 2016 because of the installation of the new lighting in the church.  The Bishop of Huntingdon visited the Church on the 10th of September to present a certificate and a cheque for £100.

In 2017 St John’s successfully applied for an Engage Award after the Chancel Roof had been completely re-slated with Welsh slates because the old roof slates were allowing water to seep into the building.   The Bishop of Huntingdon visited the Church again to present us with another certificate and a cheque for £100.

In 2018 St John’s once again applied for an Engage Award in respect of the newly installed heating system in the Church. So for the third year in a row the Bishop of Huntingdon visited the Church again to present us with another certificate and a cheque for £100.
